Asexuallity means that these people feel no sexual urges for either gender! Is this evolutionarily adaptive? I say it isn't! But then you may ask 'how do you explain being gay, that's not adaptive?!' and to that my friends i will reply that (and Vicky knows this cause we learned it in Biol 206) female sisters of a gay man tend to have higher reproductive success than normal women. So it's almost like they are making up for their brother's loss, so in a way this could potentially be adaptive.. (at least it makes sense in my mind) However, to claim to not have any sexual drive (unless you are brought up in a very religious home which could explain things ;) ) makes very little adaptive sense. One needs to have a sex drive so that it may create as many little munchkins as possible! Is asexuality just a human creation? Has anyone heard of animals who are asexual (excluding anything bacterial, fungal etc, i'm talking about mammals!) ?
Anyways onto arguably more interesting things, I am very excited for the summer to come, and as most of you know I'm having a dilemma whether to buy a laptop or a new comp. However I think I have decided to simply buy a flatscreen monitor and some more ram to spice things up with my old computer and then just buy a shitload of clothes! :P (yes sounds ditsy I know, but considering last year I made a measly 200$ for the whole summer and got tendonitis I think I am allowed to splurge on random things!)

I hope all of my faithful readers will now stop bothering me for at least another month about not blogging! haha

Time to Update

Ok so it's definitely time to update this thing!
So, Christmas was awesome! I loved Europe and spending time with Marc, it was the best thing after a mediocre semester full of mediocre grades. All B's last semester, so hopefully I can pull that up by the end of the term! (and that's us on the train after 5 hours of waiting cause it got stuck) However, since 2/3 of you faithful readers have already heard all my Europe stories they will have to be cut out of this blog so i don't bore you all over again.

I am, as most of you already know, going to be going to an interview with Dr. John Lewis, who works on weakly electric fish! Pretty cool, i wonder if it's eel type fish he works with cause that would be kinda cool, although a little gross at the same time :P Although i don't think i'd mind pretending i was evil while i was working with the eels (for all of you who are confused by my previous statement, think of the sea witch from the Little Mermaid, or the Little Spermaid as we like to lovingly call Vicky)
I also JUST, as i was writing this blog, received an email from Dr. Adam Chippindale who i will hopefully be working with for my Honours Thesis that we have an appointment at 1 p.m on Tuesday to discuss opportunities! Yay!

Other than that, i'm pretty happy with the way things are working out for now! I have finally started to get my butt in gear and working a lot on my future!
(this pic is on New Years, fireworks at the side :P)
On another note, and this blog seems to be filled with randomness as it is, the weather here sucks and i can't wait for the summer! It will be sooooo much fun to live in Ottawa, and do something that i like and actually get paid for it, and who knows if i can work my little butt off i can get a publication and then my future will already be looking brighter (yes no punctuation in that last bit cause it's supposed to be said in one long breath)!!! But i think i'm getting ahead of myself! I should probably just see how the interviews go and where that leads me in my journey of life. As you guys can probably tell i'm getting tired and could probably babble for ages, so i'd better quit while you're still remotely interested!
Luve y'all!
P.S- next time all the pics will be of NOT me!

Goodbye summer

So the time has come for summer to end and for school to start again... I am not quite sure if I am ready for it yet. I got my books a few days ago and that made me really excited! Until I opened them that is and realized another year of hard work is coming up. Of course, I am excited for all that, for the challenges and for the pride that comes with surpassing them, I'm just not sure if I want to say goodbye to the nice weather, to the doing nothing all day, and to Marc who I will now only get to see on the weekends :(

I would think that I would be getting used to this routine of ours, it has been two years now since we've been doing this, but it's still hard, and i wish we could see eachother whenever we felt like it, just call him up and say "heya, come over lets watch a movie! :)" and he'd come running of course! haha

Oh well life goes on and I will too! I still havn't decided exactly what i want to do with my life though... I'm thinking it would be a really good thing for me to be a prof, and now thinking back, I remember when I was young I always wondered what it would be like to be a teacher. And of course when I am a prof, everyone will write the nicest things about me on "ratemyprofessors.com"!

First things first though, I need to secure myself a position with a professor, and I was thinking that I would like to find a professor to work with in Ottawa next summer, therefore I can live there again next summer as well :) Anywho, these are my tentative plans for now! I will keep everyone posted on where they go!

So goodbye summer.... it's been full of happy and sad times, and I will always remember this summer of my 20th birthday. I lived away from home for a whole summer for the first time in my life, Addie, the best dog in the world died, and we got Io, who is shaping up to be a very worthy addition to the family. So goodbye summer, and I hope the next one brings nothing but joy to everyone.

Addie we still miss you, and love you, you were such a big part of our lives...

The best dog in the world died...

I finally have the strength to write this post... The best dog in the world has died, and it is a very sad thing. The kitty is in the other room meowing for no reason, I think he is very sad too, he always looks at my feet when he sees me coming, and then his eyes scan around to see if Addie is coming after me. It makes me sad. I hope he knows that Addie died.. I hope she told him the night before she died when she was lying on the ground in pain and he slept with her. I am at home all alone now, and it is hard. I expect to hear her coming up the stairs or hear her heavy sigh behind me. But I will never hear her do those things again, I will never see her again, and it is so unreal. It is so hard to imagine that the family pet, the one family member who was non-judgemental, always loved everyone no matter what, and the one who never had a bad day is now gone forever.

We will miss you so much Addie... We love you, and always will.

Goodbye my beloved, amazing, beautiful, courageous, intelligent doggie....
We all love you.

Life's Difficulties

I called in to work today, and told them that my wrist is feeling a lot better. Therefore, I asked when I can start working again. The reply was that they are not really sure WHEN they will need me because our store is pretty weather dependent, and so far this summer it hasn't been very busy. You see it takes the weather to be 'nice' for people to come and buy ice cream or chocolate, and by nice I don't mean the 45 degree weather we've been having, because that is "TOO hot" and everything starts to melt. Also 'nice' doesn't imply 45 degree weather and thunderstorms... However on the plus side I am going to pick up a 50$ cheque tomorrow from work, so that will be nice.. although an awfully miniscule amount!

WARNING: Cheesy story ahead, read at own discretion!

Therefore I have decided to become a pirate since I have no other work to do. While in Toronto with Galeto, I practiced my 'pirate look' and ate sushi (since at sea one can only eat fish). Then, to my delightful surprise I was immediately called for my first job as a pirate by the cutest captain in the world. He was slightly younger than me, but his beautiful blue/brown dreamy eyes convinced me this was the right career decision for me (and who said it was hard to find the RIGHT career in life?).

And here is where the story ends for today... To be continued? Maybe. Don't get your hopes up.

And now no one can complain that I don't write in my blog often, since if I am ever in need of something to write I can always write of my pirate adventures on the high seas with Julian! (or just my thoughts about life in general.. whichever comes first)

An Update

Updates, updates... lets see:

1.) I have tendonitis, according to a doctor I saw for a whole 5 minutes (after waiting for close to 2 hours)... and it's not very fun that's for sure. Especially because I am going to get fired, or as i should say get layed off in a nice way. Yup I'm going to probably be let go BECAUSE I can't scoop their ice cream, which is what gave me tendonitis in the first place. OHH the irony! ( If that is ironic... I never could figure out exactly what irony was in english class, I've just always wanted to say that) However, they are being really nice about it, but I know they can't afford to keep me around when I can't do the job they hired me for. Skipping past the whole being fired thing, tendonitis hurts.. espescially when doing anything which requires a circular wrist motion such as turning doorknobs, or water faucets. So a note to all within our fragile family: "Don't Do any kind of Physical labour, no matter how small you think it is, because we will end up hurting ourselves!"

2.) Canada day was very fun indeed :) went out to a friends party before the fireworks... watched the fire works (amazing, and lasted for a whole 20 mins!) drank an astonishing 2 litres of alcohol! Surprisingly there was no vomitting OR a hangover the next day just a whole lot of peeing! It was a weak beer so that might explain it! All in all it was pretty cool, it reminded me a little bit of Greece when there were sooo many people all happy and cheering in the streets!

3.) I can't wait till this thursday! When i get to see everyone again. It seems like forever ago that we've all been together! First plan of action is Sushi for lunch! Anyone who wants to come is invited, I'm having the biggest sushi craving lately!

So now do you guys see why I dont update very often? hehe it's not THAT interesting, although, if I hadn't already told you guys most of this it would be fairly intersting :P Not to mention that now it kinda hurst to type things.. so be patient with me :)

Have fun! I cant' wait!

Nothing I can do with my first paycheck

So... I have figured out that with my first paycheck I need to use almost all of it to pay back my "debts". 40$ goes to Mr. Phone Bill, 20$ goes to Mr. Internet, and another 40$ goes to Mr. Electricity and Water.

Anyways, I suppose it is not that big of a deal, I will be getting paid around 150-160$ next week Thursday or Friday for the work I did from Wednesday-Sunday this week, and that will completely erase the money I owe, however I will only be left with 55$! It's better than nothing AND I can still buy one of those amazing purses I've been drooling about since last summer.

On a more serious note, my wrist is starting to hurt a little TOO much! There is a very sharp pain on the outside of my wrist every time I scoop ice cream! I better not be developing a stress fracture! hehe, but I suppose I could get workers compensation if I am Muahaha! I work today from 1 till I'm not sure when and then I have Monday and Tuesday off that should give me enough time to recuperate :) Next week is Canada Day on Friday and I have been told that it's amazingly busy for ice cream ALL day! (my poor wrist!) On a more positive note, every once in a while my wrist gets so stiff I move it and it cracks a bit and feels A LOT better :P not sure what that means! Damn I hate being so fragile!

Marc was saying that I should wear a wrist tensor, but that means I will almost have to tell them I was a horrible choice for a worker because I am so fragile! So going with the fact that I've already lied a whole bunch to these people, I might say that I sprained it yesterday at a friends party (which we did go to, so it's not THAT big of a lie..).. Now I just need to figure out how I could have done that. This probably won't happen, but you know it's fun to make up stories.

Speaking of lying, I somehow reversed the lie about my parents living in Ottawa! I didn't think it was possible but in fact I did it so it must be! Me and James (my manager who I lied to) were talking and all of a sudden he asks me "so where do your parents live?" and I (being tired of lying, decided to tell the truth) so I replied "in Kingston", then we had a rush of customers and no more was said about any of this! So... Now me and Marc both think that he probably just got confused and thought he screwed up with the story somewhere down the line.. Oh well whatever works for me, I mean I couldn't even keep up with my own evolving story of lies!

I hope you all have a good day!

First Day of Work

So i never knew there was a technique to scooping ice cream.. but now, after an 8 and a half hour first shift i THINK i have almost mastered the way. (well not quite, my thumb, and my entire hand, hurts an aweful lot) So even before i started, i was a little worried about my ability to scoop very hard ice cream (since i have a problem/dread of doing that at home with my store bought ice cream). However, after being told many times by Marc that this was an irrational fear and that "you'll be fine", i finally felt prepared to face "the scooping hard ice cream challenge". However, contrary to what i had been told, my fear was realized today when many people asked me for "regular sorbet please" which is by FAR the hardest thing to scoop because it's flavoured ice! Imagine picking at a block of ice and that is what serving a sorbet is like! (so next time you're at an ice cream place, please do the ice cream lady/guy a favour and ask for the softest ice cream they have! :P) Also, incase you all were wondering what the difference is between gelato and ice cream, gelato is made with low fat milk, and ice cream is made with cream.. i needed to write at least one piece of useful information in my blog! :D

Anyways so, back to the technique... it sounds simple, until you try it for 100+ ice creams, then your whole hand and arm start to throb.. soo the perfect ice cream scoop goes as follow:
1. wet the scooper in water
2. dig into the tub and go along the outside in a clockwise or counter clockwise direction
3. make sure the scoop is HUGE (because even our smalls are huge!)

Yes i know laugh all you want, it sounds easy, but i need to recouperate :'( ! hehe

Anyways tomorrow i work from 4-9, and hopefully i will be alright for that shift! :D
Have fun guys and girls :)

First Blog

So now it is time for me to write my first blog as well. I mean EVERYONE is doing it, and i've recently noticed I can't handle peer pressure very well :P (please don't jump off a bridge guys!)

So as my first post, I have a dilemma, "Does the end justify the means?"
I know in Christian Ethics class we learned it doesn't but I think in this case it does and I hope you all agree! Especially because it involves CHOCOLATE and MONEY! Please tell me I am not wrong! My dilemma is that I lied while I was applying for job at the Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory (not actually a factory, but a very cute little chocolate store in the Market that also sells Ice Cream!) and said that I go to the University of Ottawa, which is obviously not true! Although now me and Marc are thinking up of good reasons/plausible stories for me to cover up the fact that I actually don't go there! Something along the lines of "I went to Queens for the first 2 years, and now i am in the process of switching to Ottawa because the program here is better (lol!), but I might not be able to switch if it is full" and then at the end of the summer be like "oh no :'( i didn't get into Ottawa (sob sob)" :P yes, quite sneaky but that is what we have so far, it also involves me using my good old acting skills which need a little exersice! Haha

In general I will try to steer clear of this topic unless asked specifically! I have my interview in about 1.5 hours and i'm pretty excited and a dash nervous just because of the whole University thing! If I do get this job that would be amazing! I will bring chocolates for everyone! I mean I DID apply there yesterday and he called me like 40 mins after I applied to ask me to go to the interview today! I must have done something right :D

Anyways that's it for now! I'll keep you all posted! Wish me luck!
